The movies leaving Netflix this month

September arrives with a different rhythm: The end of summer vacations, the return of school schedules, and the start of a busier calendar. The air might be cooler, and routines have settled in, but Netflix isn't ready to give up summer just yet. Its lineup of movies leaving this month still delivers the energy of blockbuster season, with big action titles, classic studio comedies, and apocalyptic dramas that keep the carefree, popcorn spirit alive a little longer before fall fully takes over.

There are quite a few reasons a film can get dropped from a streamer like Netflix; perhaps the movie's rights are no longer available, or its popularity doesn't justify the cost of licensing. The motivation may vary, and though many of Netflix's August 2025 cinematic casualties already met their fate on the first of the month, there's still time to catch some of the departing films.

If you haven't checked out the foreign language section of Netflix, you're missing out on many thrilling titles—including the 2015 Norwegian thriller "The Wave." The disaster movie follows a veteran geologist who must race against time to save as many people as possible before a tsunami strikes his fjord community. The tide drags that one from streaming land on Sept. 5. Still, you'll have until Sept. 13 to screen "London Has Fallen," the second part of the "Has Fallen" trilogy starring Gerard Butler as Agent Mike Banning, tasked with saving the president from another terrorist attack.

Need something a little less explosive? You can choose from 2013's "Bad Words" and 2018's "Instant Family," a pair of domestic "dramedies" leaving the block on Sept. 16. The former stars Jason Bateman, a foul-mouthed misanthrope who enters a regional spelling bee after finding a loophole in the rules. The latter is a tad sweeter and stars Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne as foster parents thrust into caring for three siblings all at once.
