AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) Global Public Health Institute and UNITE Parliamentarians Network for Global Health will convene a high-level parliamentary roundtable dialogue, Financing Health Equity and Security, on April 14 – a breakfast side event to the 2026 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group. The critical discussions will unite parliamentarians, global health leaders, and key stakeholders participating in the Spring Meetings to examine how financing decisions shape access to lifesaving health care—and why protecting health equity must remain a political and fiscal priority. Register for the roundtable here and stream it live on YouTube @AHFcares.
Held at a time of rising sovereign debt, constrained public budgets, and competing demands on social spending, the discussion will examine how governments can balance fiscal pressures while sustaining investments in health systems. Decisions made at global financial forums such as the Spring Meetings will have real-world consequences—directly affecting whether countries protect or cut access to essential health services, particularly for women, children, and other at-risk populations.
Well-functioning and equitable health systems are critical not only for public health but also for economic stability, productivity, and global health security. The roundtable will highlight the role of political leadership—particularly parliamentarians—in shaping budget priorities, safeguarding access to care, and strengthening accountability. Grounded in universal health coverage, the discussion will focus on how legislative action, public financing, and oversight can advance health equity and ensure access to quality care regardless of ability to pay.
